DeKalb County officials are working to begin construction on a new fire station that will replace the county’s oldest facility.
The $2.6 million replacement of Station Number 3 in Avondale Estates is slated to begin in early 2013. Federal grant money will cover the project, which will be built on county land adjacent to the current station, built in 1947.
Bids for construction are due soon. Once complete, the new station will accommodate larger fire vehicles and include for the first time space for female firefighters.
