The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners voted Tuesday to accept, if awarded, grant funds for the Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention and Treatment Program Grant from the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council up to $99,945 with no county match. The grant will be used to expand the CHRIS Kids program, which currently treats high-risk youth in Gwinnett, to include low and medium risk youth.

The CHRIS Kids program provides group homes for ages 6-18 currently in foster care who suffer from behavioral and/or mental health issues. Many have experienced physical, sexual, and/or emotional abuse and neglect. Many have lived in 9-10 previous homes and are typically two or more years behind their peers both socially and academically.
