A Marietta woman was run over in a driveway by a car she’d been driving.

A 59-year-old Marietta woman died Sunday after being fatally struck by a car she’d just exited.

Cobb County police said that Glenda Boyd was backing out of the driveway of a home in the 2500 block of Angus Court about 11 a.m. when she stopped and got out of the vehicle, leaving her driver’s side door open.

It isn’t clear why the Marietta woman got out of the 2011 Chrysler 300, said Cobb police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce.

“Within moments of doing so,” police said, the car came toward her, and the door struck her.

A man who was running found Boyd and tried to get her out from under the car door, but she was already dead, according to investigators.

Pierce said detectives did not indicate if the cause of the incident could be at all attributed to the weather. Channel 2 Action News reported that parts of Cobb got a foot of snow over the weekend.

Police ask that anyone with information that may help shed light on their investigation call 770-499-3987.
