The Cobb County Board of Commissioners voted 5-0 on June 18 to approve an apartment complex, a single-family subdivision and, to settle litigation, an age-restricted subdivision.

  • For the legal settlement, Other Business 30 involved the RA-6 rezoning of 41 age-targeted detached homes for senior citizens, according to applicant attorney Kevin Moore for Marietta-based David Pearson Communities Inc. Three vacant houses on the property will be demolished within 90 days due to "rodents and vagrants," said Commissioner JoAnn Birrell. The nearly seven acres are on the northwest side of Sandy Plains Road and north of Ross Road.
  • Labeled as case Z42, Chance Powers Ferry was given approval to develop nearly four acres for a mixed-use development on the west side of Shadowood Parkway and south of Powers Ferry Road. That includes 299 apartments, a parking deck/amenity area with 493 parking spaces and a three-story office building with 30,000 square feet for general office and retail. To be known as Power Lofts, the apartments will be one-bedroom units averaging 720 square feet and two-bedroom units averaging 1,040 square feet. The residential building also will have a 7,140-square-foot courtyard. At a minimum, amenities will include a pool, fitness center, clubroom, business center or internet cafe, electric vehicle charging stations (or other alternate power source) and bicycle racks.
  • For the single-family subdivision, Z39 was approved for six houses on about three vacant acres to be built by applicant Richard Duncan of Duncan Land Investments at 3520 Ebenezer Road and Shaw Road. The houses will be a minimum of 2,600 square feet.
