Update:

Atami Steak & Sushi in Acworth passed a reinspection from the health department.

The restaurant, despite having “brownish residue” inside a tea nozzle, scored a passing 96/A on its Sept. 25 health check.

Original (published Sept. 15, 2017):

A Cobb County restaurant that serves hibachi cuisine and sushi failed a recent restaurant inspection.

Atami Steak & Sushi at 2538 Cedarcrest Road in Acworth scored a 62/U on its Wednesday health check.

The inspector reported “black mold-like buildup on gaskets of the reach-in cooler.” There was also a broken gasket on the walk-in cooler.

The bottom of the table where workers prepare food had rust underneath, according to the report.

The inspector also found tofu and onions four days expired along with no soap and paper towels at some sinks.

When a person who identified themselves as a manager Friday on the phone was asked for comment by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the call was ended.

The restaurant's two previous scores were 91/A in June and 70/C in May. Any score below a 70 is considered failing.

Follow-up inspections are usually done within 10 days of the original evaluation.
