Beginning Oct. 1, Cobb Superior Court Judicial Circuit announces its transition to mandatory electronic filing in civil cases by attorneys.
For free, they will need to use the PeachCourt eFiling platform to submit civil documents to the Cobb County Superior Court Clerk’s office, according to a county statement.
In May, Gov. Nathan Deal signed SB407 into law, setting a deadline for Georgia’s 159 Superior Courts and 70 State Courts to transition to mandatory electronic filing in civil cases no later than Jan. 1, the statement said.
Instead of waiting until Jan. 1, Cobb County Superior Court Clerk Rebecca Keaton chose to begin mandatory eFiling on Oct. 1 “due to the significant benefits of 100 percent electronic filing and to ensure full compliance with the law in plenty of time before the deadline.”
Since April 2016, attorneys have been able to file documents electronically in the Cobb Judicial Circuit.
Now with mandatory electronic filing, time will be saved and costs will be reduced for the courts to benefit the taxpayers who support the courts, according to the statement.
Electronic documents will provide easier access and save physical space for the general public, attorneys and judges.
The PeachCourt eFiling platform is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at PeachCourt.com with live support provided between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
For free, attorneys and residents may register for a PeachCourt account to search for and view civil case dockets.
