Smyrna-based Glock Inc. will give $100,000 to build and maintain an addition to the Cobb County Safety Village.
The contribution was accepted by a 5-0 vote on Feb. 26 by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners.
The house will be roughly 20 feet by 30 feet and will be constructed by the Cobb County Property Management Division, according to Fire Chief Randy Crider and Public Safety Agency Director Sam Heaton.
Should there be a savings from the completed project, any remaining funding will be returned to The Safety Village Foundation.
For children in the second grade, the Glock interactive residential house will be used to teach gun safety measures and what to do if they come across a firearm.
Fourth grade students will learn about Safe Neighbor contact, Safe Place and gun safety.
At 1220 Al Bishop Drive, Marietta, the Safety Village educates about 22,000 students during the school year and, in the summer, nearly 4,000 students and parents who participate in Family Fun Safety Days.
All second and fourth grade Cobb County and Marietta students visit the Safety Village once a year, and classes are given daily during the school year.
Also, the Safety Village offers the program to private and home school students.
