The Cobb County Board of Commissioners agreed Tuesday to pay almost $300,000 for softball field improvements at two parks.

AllStar Lighting and Electrical Service will be paid $218,669 to install two new spun concrete light poles in place of the three remaining wooden poles, new light fixtures, cross arms, related wiring and disconnects for athletic field lighting at Bells Ferry Park, 2334 Bells Ferry Road, Marietta.

The new lights “will provide brighter and more even coverage” of the four softball fields, said Cobb Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Director Eddie Canon.

Groover Fence Co. will be paid $70,093 to replace backstops on four softball fields and repair some of the fencing, dugouts and gates at Big Shanty Park, 2050 Kennesaw Due West Road, Kennesaw.

Funding will come from the 2011 special purpose local option sales tax.
