Cobb Police Deputy Chief Tim Cox recently was named the interim chief of police.
Cox follows Police Chief John Houser who retired from the Cobb County Police Department in January after 35 years of service.
Since February 1985, Cox has been employed by the department, according to a police department announcement. He has experience as a communications officer (dispatcher/call taker), police officer, police sergeant, police lieutenant, police captain and police major. Cox has served in all five precincts of the department as well as several Special Operations Units. Promoted to deputy chief in 2013, he was responsible for the daily operations of the Support Operations Division and Precinct Operations Division.
A Cobb resident for 54 years, Cox attended elementary school in the Oakdale community of Smyrna and middle/high school in East Cobb and completed his secondary education at Kennesaw State University and Columbus State University.
