Clinic disputes disability rights allegations

Midtown Neurology strongly denies a disability rights complaint’s accusations and recently settled the case with the Justice Department to avoid protracted and costly litigation, the office’s owner, Husham Mishu, said in a statement released Monday.

The claims filed by a former patient, a deaf woman who said the office failed to help her communicate, “had no merit,” Mishu said. Midtown Neurology provided “multiple interpreters and other communication devices” for the woman and gave her “exceptional medical care,” the doctor said. It settled the case by paying the woman $20,000 and agreeing to provide training for staff and to consult with future hearing-loss patients to ensure they get the services they need, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
