A Clayton State University student was shot twice as he and a co-worker went to the Clayton Station apartments after work around 1:45 a.m. Sunday. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and is in good condition.

The shots may be random gunfire from a group of about 10 people that was in the parking lot of the apartments, according to a statement from Clayton State University.

The victim and his co-worker parked near the group, but said they did not know or speak to them, the statement said. As they walked toward the apartments, they heard shots, and the victim felt he was shot in the ankle. They ran into the apartments, where he realized he was also shot under his right arm.

The incident is under investigation, but according to the statement, the group scattered after the shooting and authorities do not know who was in it.

The Clayton State Office of Public Safety notified students and faculty of the incident at 3 a.m. and stated that “the scene is now safe and secure by local and area police.”

The companion was not a Clayton State student.
