The Clayton County Board of Commissioners has tentatively adopted a millage rate which will require an increase in property taxes by 10.87 percent for Clayton County municipalities and 4.84 percent for unincorporated areas of Clayton County.

Concerned citizens are invited to public hearings on this tax increase. The first two are set for 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m Wednesday at the Clayton County Board of Commissioners’ Board Room, 112 Smith Street, Jonesboro.

An additional public hearing on this tax increase is 10 a.m. July 30 at the same location.

This tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 15.862 mills for Clayton County municipalities, an increase of 1.555 mills. Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 14.307 mills.

The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $75,000 is approximately $31.10 and the proposed tax increase for nonhomestead property with a fair market value of $375,000 is approximately $233.25.

This tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 5.0 mills for unincorporated Clayton County, an increase of .231 mills. Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 4.769 mills. The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $75,000 is approximately $4.62 and the proposed tax increase for nonhomestead property with a fair market value of $375,000 is approximately $34.65.
