A Clayton County police officer kicked in the door of a burning home and saved the man inside early today, authorities said.

Officers responded to the scene in the 6500 block of Charles Drive in Morrow around 1:05 a.m. Cassandra Jones, 32, alerted the officers that her husband was still inside the house and unresponsive, Officer Eddie Soto said in a news release.

Officer Rocky Lee kicked in the side door that led to the kitchen and crawled through the thick smoke to locate 37-year-old Fabian Jones unconscious on the floor, Soto said. He pulled the man to safety.

“Thanks to Officer Lee’s quick thinking and bravery, he was able to make it possible for Mr. Jones to enjoy another day with his family,” Soto said.

Paramedics treated Fabian Jones, who was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening burns, according to police.
