The purchase of children’s playground equipment at Cherokee Veterans Park and adult exercise equipment at Hogood Park has been approved by the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners.

Commissioners approved a $202,398 contract to PlayCore Wisconsin, doing business as GameTime, to purchase and install the equipment at the two parks.

Veterans Park will get a composite playground structure, swings and an obstacle course-style playground totaling more than 6,380 square feet, staff said in a report to commissioners. Hobgood will get an outdoor fitness area with 10 freestanding pieces of equipment next to a popular walking track.

The price includes manufacturing, delivering and installing the equipment by a certified installer, staff said, as well as necessary site work and concrete curbing in each park. Cherokee will handle subsurface drainage and safety surfacing. The projects are funded by Parks and Recreation SPLOST funds and are to be completed by Nov. 30.
