The Cherokee County Board of Education talked about future building plans on two different fronts during its meeting late last week.

Board members unanimously OK’d buying 108 acres of land in west Cherokee County for $1.05 million. The property on Ga. 108 north of Ga. 20 is large enough for multi-school development, either an elementary, middle and high school configuration or a middle/high setup, school officials said.

Superintendent Frank Petruzielo also updated the board on plans for a replacement school district administration building in downtown Canton. Voters have three times approved the project in educational SPLOST referenda, but it’s been put on the back-burner due to school construction needs.

The project, added to the district’s five-year facility plan in August, would replace two older admin buildings with one brand-new structure in the same spot.
