The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners has renewed a lease agreement for Fire Station 17 in the Lake Arrowhead area near Waleska.
The initial term of the rental agreement is for five years, with three successive, five-year renewal terms, according to a staff report to commissioners. “There is no cost to the county for the rental, and the building will be solely used for fire and emergency services,” staff said.
The station, at 125 Chickasaw Drive, was built in the early 1990s, is owned by Purcell Co. Inc., and was leased for 20 years in 1998 by the Lake Arrowhead Volunteer Fire Department, according to the lease agreement. The lease expired on Sept. 30, 2018.
The county wishes to continue operating the station as a county fire facility of Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services. Staff noted that though Lake Arrowhead owners refer to the property as Station 27, the county designates it Station 17.
