The Technology Association of Georgia said Cherokee County is one of five such in Georgia that possess a so-called innovation economy topping the national average. The designation is based on the U.S. Commerce Department’s Innovation Index.

The index examined several factors, including favorable cost of living, geographic accessibility, having a skilled workforce and having a reasonable cost of conducting business.

Officials with the Cherokee Office of Economic Development said that more than 20 percent of their total business prospects in 2015 have been technology projects.
