The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners has approved two highway improvement contracts valued at more than $1.3 million along Stringer Road in the Hickory Flat area.

The county board awarded a $1.1 million contract to Glosson Enterprises Inc. to construct left-turn lanes and install a traffic signal and the intersection of Hickory Road with Stringer Road/Carriage Lane. The work is estimated to be substantially completed in six months, according to a staff report to the board.

Separately, the board approved a $228,925 contract with Bartow Paving Co. Inc. to construct a right-turn lane from Stringer to Ga. 140 (Hickory Flat Highway). The work is expected to take 90 days, staff said.

Among the conditions of both jobs: No work or movements that interfere with traffic between 7 and 8:30 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. weekdays, unless approved by the county engineer; nor any night work between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. weekdays unless a written request is submitted at least three days in advance and approved by the county.
