The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners has approved spending more than $300,000 on vehicles and equipment for the Sheriff’s Office and Fire & Emergency Services.

For the Sheriff’s Office, commissioners approved the $177,615 purchase of four Ford Explorers, as well as a Ford Transit 350 15-passenger van with electronic wheelchair lift to transport prisoners. Krause Family Ford was the low bidder for the Explorers, and Brannen Motor Co., for the Transit van, according to a staff report to commissioners.

Commissioners also approved spending $103,839 to buy a 15-passenger van for the Fire Training Division, a Transit Connect van for Fire Prevention, and two Transit Connect vans for Fire Department IT positions. King Ford was the low bidder on all four vehicles, staff said.

Also, the county will spend $34,852 to buy extrication equipment for Fire & Emergency Services from Georgia Fire and Rescue; this is a sole-source purchase, staff said. The gear is needed on Engine 24 to be used on the I-575 North/South Express Lanes.
