The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office has announced a “C.S.O. Camera Connect” program that invites citizens with video surveillance cameras to assist in investigations.
“We are looking to partner with homeowners and businesses who utilize security cameras to fight crime in Cherokee County,” Sheriff Frank Reynolds said.
Those willing to participate are asked to register with the sheriff’s office. If any future crimes are committed near the cameras, sheriff’s investigators could contact camera owners to see if their devices recorded an image of a suspect or suspicious vehicle.
“To be clear, the sheriff’s office is not asking for access to view random videos from the community,” according to the sheriff’s announcement. “This program is only to be used to collect evidence of crimes that have been committed in the area where known cameras exist.”
