The closure of Cherokee County public schools in response to the COVID-19 outbreak has been extended by nearly two more weeks, to Monday, April 13.

Digital Learning Days, with students doing coursework online, will continue through April 3, followed by spring break April 6-10, Superintendent Brian V. Hightower told the county school board Thursday.

Digital Learning initially was announced for March 16-27 but was extended to March 31 after Gov. Brian Kemp ordered all schools closed through the end of the month.

While no online classes will be offered during the break, the district said it will continue its weekly delivery of to-go meals for students at designated school and community sites through Monday, April 6. Information: http://bit.ly/CCSDserves

The school board also approved Hightower's proposal to continue paying full- and part-time salaried employees through the closure. Part-time kindergarten paraprofessionals, school nutrition workers and long-term teaching substitutes also will be paid. Information: https://bit.ly/2J0JT2b
