Cherokee County has announced the availability of home repair grants of up to $5,000 for qualified disabled persons, veterans and persons age 55 years and over.
The Minor Home Repair Program is for low- to moderate-income households, in owner-occupied single-family homes valued at no more than $180,000, with issues that meet the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development definition of "code deficiency," county officials said.
Eligible items include a leaky roof, plumbing or electrical problem, heating/air conditioning repair or replacement, problems with windows or doors, floor repairs/replacement (if a safety issue) and handicap accessibility.
The homeowner must sign an agreement that includes a requirement to remain in the house for five years after the repair. A site visit with home inspection and application process are managed by Habitat for Humanity North Central Georgia.
