The U.S. Postal Service has recognized The William Carter Company of Atlanta for innovation and industry best practices, two out of 14 companies total nationwide. The awards were presented during the Areas Inspiring Mail Meeting held virtually June 4, according to a press release.

The Postal Service’s Capital Metro Area Shipping and eCommerce Innovation Award went to Carter’s, the largest branded apparel maker in the United States exclusively for babies and young children.

Carter’s updated technology used in its retail stores sync with a Postal Service automation program, bridging its retail and ecommerce operations. The company increased performance of its ship-from-store operations and created a simplified returns process for customers.

Carter’s markets items under its OshKosh B’Gosh and Skip Hop brands, as well as private labels such as Child of Mine, Just One You, and Simple Joys, selling wholesale to more than 17,000 department and specialty stores. Carter’s also sells products online, operating approximately 850 Carter’s and OshKosh stores in the United Sates, and 200 retail stores in Canada

USPS presented awards in two categories: the Mailing and Digital Innovation Award, recognizing customers who demonstrate creativity by finding new methods of using mail to drive significant business results and mail growth; and the Shipping and eCommerce Innovation Award, honoring customers who have used industry best practices to implement new technologies to maximize efficiencies, and to convert requests for purchase and fulfillment into package orders and deliveries. There were two winners in each of the Postal Service’s seven geographic areas across the nation: Capital Metro, Eastern, Great Lakes, Northeast, Pacific, Southern and Western.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
