An out-of-control car plowed into the side of a church school building Monday morning in Douglas County, just as students were arriving for class.

No one was injured in the incident, which happened about 8:15 a.m. at the King’s Way Christian School off King’s Highway in southern Douglas County.

Bill Wininger, senior pastor of King’s Way Baptist Church, told the AJC that a woman had gotten into her car in a nearby parking lot “and I could hear gravel spinning like the tires were spinning, and she went down over the hill and into the building.”

The Honda slammed into the side of a metal building housing kindergarten classes, leaving a gaping hole in the side of the building near a hallway and storage area.

“It was right at the height of kids coming in for school this morning,” Wininger said. “Nobody was injured, except the lady driving the car, and she was just shaken.”

Wininger said that the car “fortunately didn’t hit any beams,” and apparently caused no structural damage to the building.

“We’re just very blessed that no one was seriously injured,” he said.

Angela Bowen, whose 6-year-old son, Hudson, goes to the school, said she was also “very thankful” that there were no serious injuries.

“I was worried about my son, and came in and found him, and we’re very happy,” Bowen said. “I’m just thankful to the Lord. I feel like He had His protective hand on us and on the school.”
