Bond was denied Thursday for a Douglas County man charged with stabbing his neighbor to death Wednesday afternoon.

The incident happened on Yeager Road when a man came home and found his neighbor trying to steal his belongings, detectives told Channel 2 Action News.

Police said the neighbor killed the homeowner.

Andrew Agan, a spokesman for the Douglas County District Attorney's office, told the AJC that 27-year-old David Baltodano was charged with murder and burglary.

The deceased is 65-year-old Don Peden, Douglas County coroner Randy Daniel told the AJC.

Peden was formerly an electrician for the AJC.

In a statement released Thursday, his family said: "The entire Peden family is grieving in the aftermath of this shocking tragedy. Don Peden was a loving husband and wonderful father, grandfather, son and brother who will be tremendously missed. His lifelong devotion to his church and his community will leave a lasting impression on many of our lives."

Thursday morning, Douglas County Superior Court Chief Judge Robert J. James denied bond for Baltodano at his first court appearance. No future court date has been set for Baltodano, who Agan said was born in Nicaragua and lived in Miami before moving to Douglas County.

Last August, Mary Joan Gibbs, 77, of Douglasville, was killed, allegedly by a 15-year-old great-grandson who Douglas County authorities said attacked her with a samurai sword. Gibbs was also an AJC retiree.
