The Atlanta 4-H Robotics team at Fulton County's Westlake High School has finished building its robot for the national FIRST Robotics' 2012 challenge Rebound Rumble. The team will compete in the Peachtree Regional event March 15 at the Gwinnett Center. The students worked on their project during their free time for the Westlake 4-H Robotics Club. They developed, designed, programmed and engineered a robot that will play basketball and compete with 2,300 other teams around the country.  Their teacher and mentor is Dewayne Belcher. Team captain is Kamari Wright and co-captain is Jack Brinson. Other team members are lead programmer Dorothy Gilchrist, lead designer Ashley Snowden, Brandon Chambers, Edward Stewart, Neva Hope, Haley Smith, Julicia Roper, Marcel Wade, Lieban Dougsiyah, Bruno Gustmao, Jimia Glover, Alexis Abdullah, Keohn Pickens and Kamri Hagler.

Several students in Cherokee County schools are headed to the State Science and Engineering Fair. The students won first place awards at the North West Georgia Regional Science and Engineering Fair. First place winners are: Matthew Johnson, Keith Kurt, Brandon Steele, Mansi Vadodaria, Taylor Head, Tracey DinhLajoura GreenMary Penniman and Alyssa Yaeger, Woodstock High; Blake Chester, Teasley Middle; Cameron Buice, Dean Rusk Middle; Peter Gudbrandsen and Juliana Damico, Freedom Middle; Austin Floyd, Cherokee High. Second place winners:  Connor Frost, Woodstock High; Byron Schirner, Creekland Middle; Nieves Ristuccia and Rebecca Choe, Dean Rusk Middle; Austin "AJ" Cox, Woodstock Middle; Jordan Ariano and Jason Mancuso, Knox Elementary.  Third place winners: Joshua Thrift and Matthew Weissel, Woodstock Middle; and Brittany Wallace, Dean Rusk Middle.

Students from Cobb County's Walton High School are headed to the National Science Bowl in April, after winning the state competition last week. Team members are: Charles Wang, captain;  Michael BlotnerGeorge FeiEdward Park and Lisa Wang. The team from Walton competed against 55 other teams in a regional competition of the 22nd Annual U.S. Department of Energy National Science Bowl. The U.S. Department of Energy created the event in 1991 to encourage students to excel in mathematics and science and to pursue careers in these fields.
