Beacon Center nearing the finish line

Decatur’s $32.8 million Beacon Municipal Center is nearing completion, with the new gym — replacing the 1948 Ebster Gym — scheduled to open in January. The multi-tiered courtyard should be ready around the same time, and the municipal court will move into the west wing later this month. City Schools Decatur moved into Beacon last May, with the police following in September. The roughly 80,000-square foot complex, on the site of the old Trinity High and Beacon Schools, is Decatur’s largest-ever municipal building.
