Before a nearly-packed city hall Monday, Avondale Estates approved an annexation master plan resolution nearly doubling both the city’s size and population. There were several changes to the map originally presented last month.
The Walmart shopping center south of the city was removed. A small, roughly four-acre commercial tract on the east side of Laredo Drive was added, along with a residential/retail stretch on East Ponce de Leon , including vacant property once housing the Scottdale Mill, land now owned by DeKalb Farmer’s Market president Robert Blazer.
Avondale’s next step is taking the resolution to State Representative Karla Drenner (D-Avondale Estates) who has yet to declare whether she’ll submit a bill to the General Assembly.
