A decision on keeping the same millage rate is expected by the Austell City Council at 6 p.m. July 22 during its last of three public hearings.

The meeting will be held at the Austell City Hall, 2716 Broad St., Austell.

However, the proposed 2019 millage rate of 3.25 mills - although the same since 2017 - will require an increase in property taxes by 6.07 percent.

Before 2017, the tax rate was 3.06 mills from 2016 back to at least 2014.

Without this tentative tax increase, the 2019 millage rate will be no more than 3.064 mills.

The proposed annual tax increase for a house with a fair market value of $100,000 is around $7.07.

Then the proposed annual tax increase for nonhomestead property with a fair market value of $300,000 is about $22.32.

The proposed millage rate for the portion of the city of Austell digest that is within Douglas County is zero for 2019.
