Thanks in part to a federal grant that will make possible the hiring of 47 new sworn firefighters, the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department announced it is accepting applications for the 2016-17 class of recruits.
The department was recently awarded a $5.6 million grant from the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Program of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The deadline to apply for firefighter recruit positions is Nov. 1.
An applicant must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, with a valid U.S. driver’s license, acceptable 3-year driving record, and a high school diploma, GED or its equivalent. The candidate also must successfully complete a physical ability test, oral panel interview, background check, medical examination and other evaluations.
