The Arts Clayton Gallery is hosting the nationally-renowned “Quilts of Gee’s Bend” exhibit from April 5 through May 31. The exhibit features quilts created by a group of women who live in the predominately black hamlet of Gee’s Bend, Ala. The Gee’s Bend quilters use salvaged fabrics to create quilts in strong colors, dynamic patterns, and unusual geometric shapes. The New York Times has called the quilts “some of the most miraculous works of modern art America has produced.” The exhibit includes numerous workshops including an April 6 workshop with the Gee’s Bend quilters. Registration is required for all workshops. Reserve space by calling the Gallery at 770-473-5410.
