Acworth has canceled its Nov. 7 city election since Mayor Tommy Allegood and Aldermen Tim Richardson for Post 4 and Tim Houston for Post 5 are unopposed. They will serve four-year terms from Jan. 1, 2018 to Jan. 1, 2022.

Also, the Acworth Board of Aldermen has designated 20 parking spaces in the parking lot at the corner of Southside and Taylor Street as three-hour parking. The other 20 spaces in the lot will remain unlimited.

In other business on Sept. 21, the city renewed its lease of Proctor Landing Park from the U.S. Corps of Engineers for 25 years at no charge to the city.

Expenditures approved include:

  • Hiring of T.K. Consulting, LLC for design at no more than $55,500 of improvements for Robinson Street with the Local Maintenance Improvement Grant (LMIG). Improvements will help with traffic flow, drainage and cross-street intersection safety.
  • A new audio/video system for the council chambers from Botwin Communications for $31,000.
  • Equipment from ProLogic ITS to outfit three new police vehicles for $16,132.
  • Basketball referee services from the Northeast Cobb Officials Association for the Acworth Youth Basketball League for $15,000.
  • Hiring of T.K. Consulting, LLC for site design at $2,900 to relocate the train depot to the corner of Cowan Road and Cowan Road Connector.
