Immediately through April 1, Acworth city officials are canceling all city-sponsored senior citizen activities due to the COVID-19 disease.

That includes exercise classes, the March Senior Luncheon and the day trip scheduled for March 27.

Closer to April 1, the status of the city programs will be re-evaluated.

Scheduled for March 14, the Daddy-Daughter Dance has been postponed to a future date and time to be determined.

To those registered for the dance, they will receive an email for an update.

Any changes to programs, events or facilities will be communicated through email and social media on Facebook@acworthparksandrec.

With the Acworth Community Center being the most highly visited city facility, the city’s Customer Experience and Operations teams “are working together to thoroughly clean and disinfect all public areas at the facility,” according to an Acworth statement released on March 12.

“We have professional surface disinfectant, and all surfaces are being sprayed and treated multiple times daily,” the statement added.

Children and adults are advised to stay home if they have any symptoms of COVID-19, including fever, cough or shortness of breath.
