Greg Adams, left, and Randal Mangham will compete in a Dec. 6 runoff election for DeKalb County Commission District 7.

A recount confirmed Friday that a race for DeKalb County Commission is heading to a runoff.

Greg Adams, an Emory University police officer, and Randal Mangham, an attorney, will meet in a Dec. 6 runoff to represent DeKalb Commission District 7, which covers about 350,000 residents in the eastern half of the county.

The results of the recount were the same as they were after Election Day. Adams and Mangham received the most votes out of nine candidates on the ballot, but neither achieved a majority needed to win the race outright.

About 26 percent of voters chose Adams, and 16 percent supported Mangham. Business owner Diane Adoma requested the recount after finishing in third place with 15 percent of the vote, less than 1 percentage point behind Mangham.

The winner of the runoff will replace former DeKalb Commissioner Stan Watson, who resigned in March to make an unsuccessful run for DeKalb tax commissioner.
