Johns Creek offers free shredding, grease recycling

Johns Creek will offer paper shredding and recycling of fluorescent bulbs, oil and grease Saturday.

The paper shredding is free, as is the recycling of cooking fats, oil and grease. Those items clog pipes if they’re sent down drains.

The city is also collected “gently used” clothes and shoes.

City residents won’t pay to recycle fluorescent bulbs —which contain mercury —but non-residents will pay up to $5 to recycle them.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Panera Bread Co. at 11715 Medlock Bridge Road. For more information, call Keep Johns Creek Beautiful at 770-551-7766.

The event is part of Johns Creek’s Hero4aDay initiative, a community day of service that includes a path repair and beautification project at the Northeast/Spruill Oaks Public Library and painting the fence at Newtown Community Garden.
