Registered sex offenders would be prohibited from photographing children without their parent or guardian's consent, according to a bill passed by the state House of Representatives this week.
House Bill 24 clarified a law from last year that prohibits anyone from taking a child’s photo without permission. Its sponsor, Rep. Ann Purcell, R-Rincon, said the change makes clear the target of the bill and helps avoid a potential consequence of parents violating the law by snapping photos at their kids’ sporting events or other activities.
The bill, which was approved 162-5, now heads to the state Senate for review and a vote.
