Fulton County will form a partnership with local nonprofits, police and other agencies to combat sex trafficking under a resolution approved by the Board of Commissioners Wednesday.
County commissioners authorized the partnership and called for the various agencies involved to devise strategies for combating sex trafficking. The resolution also authorizes the county manager to devote law enforcement, public health and other resources to assist in the effort.
According to the Governor’s Office for Children and Families, more than 300 girls are commercially sexually exploited in Georgia each month. On Wednesday Chairman John Eaves called the Atlanta area the epicenter of the problem.
“There are a lot of people doing their part, large and small,” Eaves said. “But there is a clear need to coordinate.”
