Lawyers representing Jacopa Johnson, the Henry County mother who filed suit against the school system so that her homeless children could remain at the school they attended before being evicted from their home, were granted an extension on the case. Eugene Choi of the Georgia Legal Services Program said they needed more time. The initial court date was Oct. 22. The judge set Dec. 21 as the date for the parties to appear in court.

In the meantime, Johnson is still trying to find permanent housing while maintaining a full time job and driving the kids from their temporary lodgings in Macon to their school in McDonough. She then drives herself to a nursing job in Conyers and reverses the trip back home every day.

Johnson set up a GoFundMe account to help with the $30-a-day expense of their commute and to put a deposit on a home in Henry County. To date she has raised $2,550 of a goal of $5,000.
