Gwinnett County school board members voted Thursday evening to spend more than $10 million to buy land that will be used to build an elementary school and a high school in the Meadowcreek High School cluster.
The land for the proposed high school is located at Club Drive and Steve Reynolds Boulevard near Gwinnett Place Mall. The school district is spending about $8.2 million for three tracts of land totaling about 17.6 acres. The land owners are Rock-Tenn Shared Services, SRB Ventures and the Rubin Lansky estate.
The planned elementary school will be constructed on about 13 acres located at 1150 Old Norcross-Tucker Road in Tucker. The property is owned by Jalaine Halsall. Gwinnett is purchasing the property for $2.1 million.
Gwinnett officials considered three sites for each school. The school board’s agenda did not disclose the other potential sites.
The school district will use money from the district’s Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax to pay for the land. The Meadowcreek cluster has had some of the fastest population growth in Gwinnett.
