DeKalb County School District students showed progress on the ACT in 2017, but still fell short of the state and national averages.

District officials said the district improved its composite score average to 19.8 from 19.4 in 2016. The national average score is 21.

Across the state, students taking the test in 2017 averaged 21.4, the second time the state average dwarfed the national composite average. A 36 is considered a perfect score on the exam.

A handful of schools scored above the state and national average composite score, including Chamblee Charter High School (24.9), DeKalb School of the Arts (24.8) and Dunwoody High School (24.3).

“Our students have again demonstrated progress on the ACT, and forward momentum is always celebrated,” Superintendent Steve Green said. “However, our goal is to meet or exceed the national standard, and we will redouble our efforts, through rigorous instruction and determined preparation, toward meeting that goal.”
