Water fountains were running this morning at Dunaire Elementary School in DeKalb County, a day after being shut off amid water-contamination concerns.

DeKalb County School District spokesman Quinn Hudson said brown water was discovered in toilets before school started Monday, prompting officials to shut off fountains, affixing signs warning people not to use them. Bathrooms remained fully functional, and water was made available to teachers upon request for the school’s 755 students, he said.

Hudson said the district deals with water woes a handful of times during the school year, due to nearby construction or other issues. The district has a policy for schools to temporarily be housed in another school if water shouldbe totally shut off in the building.

When students arrived this morning, signs posted at fountains had been removed.
