David Park, a student at Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology, came in fourth place at the Samsung Mobile Boot Camp for top performing high school students interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Samsung Mobile worked with the University of California, Berkeley, the University of Texas at Dallas, Georgia Institute of Technology and Massachusetts Institute of Technology to develop activities for the boot camp. They also created teacher resources for educators interested in teaching mobile application development.

Holcomb Bridge Middle School in Fulton County is one of three schools in the state named in the "Lighthouse Schools to Watch" program. The program was developed by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform to identify middle schools that are excelling. Holcomb Bridge was selected by the Georgia Middle School Association and Georgia Alliance for Middle Level Excellence because of its academic excellence and its responsiveness to the needs of students. The school's teachers and leaders were also recognized for their work.

A statewide organization has chosen a Gwinnett County schools employee as Georgia's top social studies educator. Scott Roberts has been honored by the Georgia Council for the Social Studies as its outstanding educator of the year. Roberts is the school district's social studies program specialist. The award recognizes a Georgia social studies educator for his or her leadership and service to the subject area. Roberts joined Gwinnett County in 2001 as a social studies teacher at Summerour Middle School. He later taught at Dacula Middle School and currently serves as the social studies program specialist in the Division of Teaching and Learning at the district's Instructional Support Center.
