Atlanta Public Schools had one of the highest rates of bullying among students in the 2014-15 school year in metro Atlanta, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

There were 440 reported incidents that resulted in disciplinary action in APS, the second-highest in metro Atlanta districts. DeKalb schools had the most with 849.

The state’s definition of bullying is “A pattern of behavior, which may include written, verbal, or physical acts, that is so severe, persistent, or pervasive so as to have the effect of substantially interfering with a student’s education, threatening the educational environment or causing substantial physical harm or visible bodily harm.”

Bullying is among a list of other disciplinary incidents in schools in metro Atlanta compiled in a searchable database by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution as part of a recent report on school security.
