Georgia’s tax collections in August ticked up 3.5 percent from the same time a year ago, thanks partly to a hike in sales tax revenue.

Gov. Nathan Deal on Monday said net tax collections totaled nearly $1.4 billion for the month, an increase of $47 million from August 2013. For the fiscal year, Georgia revenue is up $125 million, or 4.5 percent, compared to the same time last year.

Corporate income tax collections dropped by about $2 million during the month. But that decline was offset by a $14.5 million surge in individual income tax receipts and a nearly $66 million jump in sales tax collections compared to the same time last year.
