Three firefighters were overcome by heat following a house fire Monday afternoon in Brookhaven.

Two of the men were taken to a local hospital for treatment, but both are expected to be released soon, according to DeKalb fire Capt. Eric Jackson. The third firefighter was treated on the scene.

The home, in the 1800 block of Remington Road, was heavily damaged.

Jackson said the 90-degree temperatures mixed with the heavy equipment firefighters wear didn’t help the situation.

“There was also a pretty good distance between the house and the hydrant,” Jackson said. “They came out of the house on their own power and we determined they needed to be evaluated further.”

There were no other injuries reported.
