Police say more than a dozen students were affected by pepper spray at a southwest Atlanta middle school fight.
The incident happened following a report of a fight between 7th-grade girls at Crawford W. Long Middle School at 3200 Latona Drive, Atlanta Police spokesman Officer John Chafee said.
An Atlanta School Recource Officer working at the school sprayed one burst from his “OC spray” towards the girls when “he was unable to stop their aggressive behavior towards each other,” Chafee said.
The incident happened in the cafeteria during lunchtime, and police said approximately 13 bystanders were affected by the spray.
Paramedics were called to the school, per Atlanta Police policy, to treat those students affected and approximately 11 students were taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston by ambulance and by bus, and four more were treated at the schoo, police said.
Both students involved in the fight were charged with simple battery, Chafee said.
