One south Fulton County gas station has seen a rash of break-ins and thefts.
A Citgo on Campbellton Road has had more than 40 break-ins in the past six months, about a 400 percent increase in crime.
Police in Fulton County told Channel 2 Action News the criminals are preying on women. Thieves have broken into cars by smashing windows and are stealing purses.
“He was standing at my car. And he was peering in,” said Leslie Coleman, a crime victim. “Next thing I know the window was shattered. He was in and out so fast.”
The manager of the gas station has added more lights, surveillance cameras and an alert warning customers to lock their car doors, according to Channel 2.
Daphne Johnson, an area resident, has started a petition asking for the station’s liquor license not to be renewed because of the crimes. It’ll go before the county commission.
