In essence, a Florida woman was arrested for trying to protect a deputy.

According to TC Palm, Melissa Kelly, 37, addressed a St. Lucie County Sheriff's deputy by name before swearing at him. Another deputy on the scene reported he thought she went into her home to get a gun during a March 11 incident.

Kelly stood in front of a window in her home with only part of her body, excluding her hands, visible. Deputies say the uncertainty of her actions forced them to train their guns at the woman until they could tell she didn’t have a weapon, according to TC Palm.

Then Kelly left her home holding a Magnum condom, got within inches of a deputy’s face and began waving the condom.

“She then started yelling and screaming towards me, stating, ‘Here try this on for size,’ referring to the Magnum condom she was holding in my face,” an affidavit obtained by TC Palm states.

Kelly was arrested and charged with breach of peace and resisting arrest without violence.
