Cobb County and a county in South Georgia have differing views on an $8,323 bill from the Justin Ross Harris murder trial in 2016.

The money was used to extend audio and video connections from the county courthouse to an empty lot, where television news vehicles were set up.

Glynn County may write off the money as a bad debt, according to officials close to the case.

Cobb County said it was never its problem.

“I checked with Court Administrator Tom Charron,” Cobb County spokesman Ross Cavitt said. “He told me they discussed at the time with Glynn County officials that this was nothing the county needed to conduct the trial, so if the work was done for the media they would have to pay for it.”

Harris was convicted of leaving his 22-month-old son in the back of a hot SUV in June 2014. The trial was moved to South Georgia because the judge felt Harris couldn't get a fair trial in Cobb County.

“We’re not sure where the wires crossed down in Glynn County,” Cavitt said.
