He was driving a black Ford Crown Victoria equipped with police lights, had a badge and carried a gun on his waistband, according to Smyrna police.

And Jabir Najee Bashir allegedly identified himself as chief of the Morris Brown College campus police. But the college no longer has a police force.

“That police department is no longer in existence as it was disbanded,” Bashir’s arrest warrant states. “The affiant confirmed with Morris Brown that they now use a private security firm.”

Bashir said his police certification was current, and the arresting officer verified it, the warrant states.

“However he stated that he had been inactive for the past seven years as the Chief due to an investigation and bankruptcy,” the warrant states. “The said accused believed himself to still be the Chief of Morris Brown College police department, although said police department is no longer in existence and has been disbanded.”

Bashir also allegedly was carrying a Banu Tallahassiy Native American photo identification card because his driver’s license had been suspended, according to police.

Bashir, 63, was arrested Sunday afternoon and charged with two counts of impersonating a police officer, possession of a fake ID and driving on a suspended license, his warrant states.

Morris Brown College campus and student body has dwindled in recent years due to financial woes and bankruptcy. Forty students attended the historically black college in October, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported. Morris Brown president Stanley Pritchett said he hopes to raise $2 million during the next year.
